When to use each format

Western digits are the safer choice for anything a computer needs to read — phone numbers in forms, prices in spreadsheets, codes and IDs — because many systems do not accept Arabic-Indic digits as numbers. Arabic-Indic digits are common in printed Arabic text, formal documents and designs where the numbers should match the Arabic script. When in doubt, follow the format already used by the document or organisation you are writing for.

Frequently asked questions

What are Arabic numbers?

The phrase can mean two things. The digits 0–9 used worldwide are often called “Arabic numerals”. The digits ٠١٢٣٤٥٦٧٨٩ used in many Arabic-speaking countries are called Arabic-Indic or Eastern Arabic numerals. This tool converts between the two.

Which digits are used in Saudi Arabia and the UAE?

Both systems are in everyday use across the Gulf. Which one is used depends on the context — publication, organisation, device settings or personal habit — so this tool lets you choose the format rather than assuming one.

Are Arabic numbers written right to left?

No. Even inside right-to-left Arabic text, numbers are written with the most significant digit on the left, for example ٢٠٢٦ for 2026.

Will it change normal commas and full stops in my text?

Only if you turn on “Also convert . , %”. Even then, only a point or comma between two digits and a percent sign right after a digit are changed — sentence punctuation is left alone.

Does it convert Persian or Urdu digits?

Yes. Extended Arabic-Indic digits (۰–۹, used in Persian and Urdu) in your input are converted to the format you choose.
